In 2017, as Chair of the National Red Day Committee for our company through our local Market Center at Keller Williams Realty Buffalo Northtowns, we selected the Matt Urban Hope Center for our annual Day of Giving. The Aha moment was when we learned that Buffalo, New York native, Matt Urban, was the most highly decorated Military Veteran of World War II, who was the recipient of seven Purple Hearts and the Medal of Honor. From that point forward the appreciation for men and women in the Armed Services took on new meaning. We honored the Matt Urban Hope Center with a new flag dedication ceremony by the Niagara Falls Air Force Base Honor Guard. This center serves not only as a homeless shelter on the city’s East side of Buffalo in view of the Central Terminal, but is a beacon of hope for all disadvantaged men, women and children. Additionally, a committee member who participated on the Red Day Team, is an avid advocate and photographer for the men and women in uniform, and her insight and dedication has opened my eyes to the enduring suffering that occurs in the lives of these champions of freedom and hope. We are glad to support all those who serve, educate and heal the next person that is brought into our path.
